NEW CALIFORNIA STATE AND MUNICIPAL MINIMUM WAGE REQUIREMENTS IN 2008In addition to a new year, January 1, 2008 also brings new California state and municipal minimum wage requirements. For all employees statewide, the minimum wage goes up from $7.50 per hour to $8.00 per hour. For any employee who works within the geographic boundaries of the City and County of San Francisco, the municipal minimum wage rises to $9.36 per hour. Take note that, even if the employer's primary place of business is outside of San Francisco, if any employees work within San Francisco, they must be paid the municipal minimum wage for that work. Other cities within the state also have municipal minimum wage ordinances that apply only to contracts with the city or county. Employers should be sure to post the new 2008 minimum wage posters at all worksites. Downloadable posters for California and San Francisco can be found at: California: http://www.dir.ca.gov/wp.asp San Francisco: http://www.sfgov.org/site/uploadedfiles/olse/mwo/2008_MWO_Poster.pdf
